Frederick County offers high-quality, award-winning educational facilities and institutions that provide the business community with a highly educated workforce. Frederick County's labor force includes graduates from Frederick Community College, Hood College, and Mount Saint Mary's University and students enrolled in Frederick County Public Schools, Maryland School for the Deaf located in Frederick as well as a wide variety of private schools and special education options.
Frederick County Public Schools
Frederick County is nationally recognized for its public education system and remains one of the region's leaders in virtually every measure of student achievement and educational attainment. Frederick County students consistently outpace the state and nation in SAT scores. Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) has been a recipient for many years of the U.S. Department of Education's prestigious National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Award.
Higher Education
A comprehensive array of advanced education alternatives is offered by local colleges, including Hood College, Mount Saint Mary's University, and Frederick Community College as well as by prestigious universities such as Johns Hopkins University and the 12 campuses of the University System of Maryland.
Hood College in Frederick City is a private, four-year college offering 30 undergraduate majors, 20 master's degrees, and four doctorates. In Emmitsburg, Mount Saint Mary's University is an undergraduate liberal arts college with graduate programs that include business and education. Frederick Community College, also in Frederick City, is a two-year college offering associate degrees in a variety of majors, including business, pre-engineering, and nursing.
Workforce Training
The workforce development system in Frederick County works together to proactively promote and implement the needs of its ever-changing workforce. Frederick Community College has numerous partnerships and is capable of customizing various industries' training needs. Frederick County Workforce Services provides various levels of training, which range from seminars, and hands-on computer labs to working with Frederick Community College and customized training programs. The Maryland Department of Commerce provides reimbursement grants for the development and training of new employees in firms locating or expanding their workforce in Maryland.
